mmmkay?

So. Here we are again. Typing. Stuff. With no plan. Good thing this isn't my work blog, or I might be in trouble. But, since I don't really care about quality here, I guess it doesn't really matter that I have no plan. Free-writing is always the best for personal blogs, anyways.  Well, maybe not always.  But, whatever.

I had a nice Memorial Day today.  And by "nice" I mean, relaxing and fulfilling. I was able to help my friend move into his new place this morning — so, got some good service in. Then, my home teacher bought me lunch at Rubio's.  I got their famous fish tacos. It was awesome. And then, since I was right next to the movie theater, I decided to see a matinĂ©e. Unfortunately, the only thing that was showing at the time was the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie. So, I bit the bullet and watched it, in 3D. And, to be honest, it wasn't that bad. I'm kind of shocked that I can say that without cringing. But, it's true. It's probably the second best film of the franchise, despite the fact that Kiera Knightley wasn't in it. However, Penelope Cruz more than compensated for her absence.

After the movie I came home, read a little, and promptly fell asleep. I don't know what it is with reading and falling asleep, but the two seem to be inextricably linked for me. I have a really hard time staying awake when I start reading something. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I usually read while reclining/laying down. Yeah. That's probably a big part of it. Ha ha. But, I figure, if I'm that tired, falling asleep can't be such a bad thing, right?

Anyhoo. That basically brings us up to now. Other than some TV watching and facebook chatting.

Right now I'm listening to the new Okkervil River album, and let me just tell you, they are AMAZING. I love those guys. They're a little bit of an acquired taste, I suppose. But, once you're hooked, you're hooked for good. My favorite thing about them is their lyrics. They're chock full of literary allusions. Even their name comes from a Russian short story by Tatyana Tolstaya. I really want to read it, because I love Russian literature. I'm actually reading The Brothers Karamazov right now. It's amazing. Dostoyevsky is such a genius. And, I especially enjoy it because it gets really deep into religious philosophy. I like that. It's all about these brothers and their father, and all of them except one are steeped in depravity and live this horribly debauched lifestyle. The youngest brother is actually really religious and wanted to become a monk, but he was counseled by his favorite Father not to do it. I'm about 300 pages into the book, and it's just starting to get really good. One of the sons is plotting to kill his father, and the younger brother is going to try to stop him, but I have a sneaking suspicion that he won't succeed. I have no idea where the book goes from there. Which is always nice. I like not knowing what will happen in a book.

Anyway. That's probably enough for now. In case anyone is interested, here's a great song by Okkervil River, from their new album, "I am very far." The song is called "Hanging From a Hit." It's sheer genius, Lloyd. Give it a listen.
