Junk Mail

As with all of you, I HATE getting junk mail.  For me, the worst offenders are American Express and Chase Bank.  Ugh.  I get so, so, so much mail from these retards.  So, today I decided to do something about it.  As it turns out, I get mail from these companies because they are sending me prescreened credit offers, based on my credit report.  For the first time ever, I think, I actually opened one of the letters I got.  And, lo and behold! There was a statement at the bottom of the page informing me that I could opt-out of receiving these troublesome letters.

As it turns out, there's a website, or phone number you can call, that makes it possible for you to permanently opt out of getting these prescreened credit card offers.  Since this was a revelation to me, I figured I'd pass the news on to everyone else.  So.  Here you go:

If you want to opt-out, simply go to https://www.optoutprescreen.com. Or, you can call 1-888-567-8688.

This is the best news I've had in weeks.  Seriously.  Now, all I need to figure out is how to opt out of insurance junk mail, and I'll be really close to being junk mail free.

Hopefully this blog post helps someone else.

Another great resource (although I didn't actually use their services, yet) appears to be http://donotmail.org/. I can't vouch for them, but they seem legitimate.  As always, do your homework before taking advice on things like this. (I don't want someone to get their identity stolen on my advice!) But, for what it's worth, Do Not Mail seems like a legitimate effort to save the trees being used to produce the paper for junk mail. So, I'm guessing they're on the up-and-up. And, hey, I support the saving of rainforests and other forests. I'm not super granola, but I do believe in being respectful to nature and using natural resources judiciously. After all, trees make oxygen and reduce carbon dioxide.  And, most importantly, they're beautiful!

So.  There you go. Opt out!

Sincerely,

Captain Planet.
